How do you count monitoring hours?

Every time you log metadata of a run, it creates the 10 min segment on the run’s monitoring clock.

You only pay for the time when you actually log metadata to Neptune, billable by minute.

  • Your run took 100 hours
  • You logged metadata in minutes 20, 22, 24, and 600
  • You pay for 14 + 10 = 24 monitoring minutes.

What are monitoring hours?

Monitoring hours refer to the amount of time you use Neptune to track your training runs or monitor models on production. Neptune implements per-minute billing.

What happens when I run out of monitoring hours?

When you run out of monitoring hours your account will enter a read-only mode until you return to a positive monitoring hours balance – the start of the next month. In other words, your runs will be monitored but you won’t be able to fetch the data programmatically and the access to the web application will be limited.

Do monitoring hours expire?

Unused monitoring hours pass to the next month and only expire one year after the purchase. When the account subscription is canceled unused monitoring hours will be forfeited

How do I buy monitoring hours?

At the beginning of each month, 200 monitoring hours are added to your account for free. Additional monitoring hours are purchased in blocks of 200. You can buy them manually anytime. You can also turn-on automatic top-ups, and Neptune will automatically top-up your account anytime your balance will go below 200 monitoring hours.

Can I use Neptune for free?

Yes! Every plan receives a monthly quota of 200 monitoring hours (unused hours pass to the next month and only expire after a year) and a storage limit of 100 GB.

Do you have any Startup discounts?

If you are a Startup you will get a bonus of 2400 monitoring hours for the Team plan for free (double the 12 months quota of monitoring hours).  Reach out to – ML teams advocate at Neptune to apply for the Startup program.

Can I get free access for Academia or Kaggle or Non profit?

We offer a Academia license with increased monthly quota for research, educational, non-profit organizations and Kaggle teams.

Set up a team workspace and claim Academia licence in the process.

Note that we will verify the usage of teams with Academia license and we may deactivate workspaces that we believe are breaking the license rules. Any questions? Reach out to – Researchers program advocate at Neptune.

If you are a single researcher or student you can use an Individual account.

Many tools charge per user. Why do you have usage-based pricing?

We believe value-based pricing is fair. What you pay should correlate with the value you are getting from the tool. It’s that simple. We use a heuristic based on the amount of data stored and the run monitoring time recorded to estimate that value.

Secondly, this approach fits any model building life cycle. Many data science teams do not train models 24/7 but have a few weeks of heavy model training every 3-4 months. With value-based pricing, you only pay when you are actually using the tool.

Lastly, You should be able to share your ML metadata in your organization with Data scientists, ML engineers, DevOps engineers, and managers when you need to. With user-based pricing, you’d have to pay extra. With value-based pricing, you can invite people whenever you want.

Why am I paying for storage / monitoring in on-premises plans?

Many companies charge large amounts upfront. We don’t do that. We believe in value-based pricing, where you only pay when using the tool brings value.

To estimate the value Neptune brings, we use a heuristic based on the amount of data stored and the recorded run monitoring time.

That said, if it doesn’t work for your use case, we are happy to create tailor-made pricing for you in a Scale plan.
